Monthly Forecast for December 2007

December is another busy month in the skies. After an initial “push,” we have a series of very harmonious aspects in mid-month, and then things take a more serious turn around the 19th.

The first aspects this month are soft and quiet, but if you can hear them, they’re very nice. Venus will make harmonious sextiles to Jupiter and Pluto on the 2nd and 3rd. These two aspects will make it easier to communicate in relationships, and should also make for a (slightly) more harmonious time if you’re doing your holiday shopping. Among other things, it might make it easier to find the “right” gift without overindulgence. If holiday bonuses are being determined around this time, so much the better for everyone.

On the 5th, Venus moves into Scorpio, where she’ll remain until the 30th. Venus in Scorpio has a reputation for being sexy, but a more realistic manifestation in most cases is a kind of protectiveness that doesn’t really lend much grace to our socialization.

On the 6th, Mercury squares Saturn. This isn’t a good day to solicit help or favors from those in authority.

The next day, December 7th, has the sun in a square to Uranus. This potentially explosive energy can be hard to handle, but can be very useful if you need to innovate or make significant changes in just about any area of life.

The new moon on the 9th is in the sign of Sagittarius. New moons are always great for moving inwards and finding some space to meditate and back off from activity. That’s probably pretty hard this month, especially with the moon in the outgoing sign of the archer.

On the 10th, Mercury squares Uranus, an aspect which favors innovation in communication, but which also tends to lead us to say and write things we don’t really mean (or we do really mean but wouldn’t otherwise say). Driving is also liable to be a little too energetic, so be careful on the roads.

You’ll be feeling the energy of the Jupiter/Pluto conjunction for a couple of weeks before it is exact, on the 11th of December. This aspect is associated with a kind of wild enthusiasm, a driven optimism that doesn’t always look so well-advised in retrospect. Still, it is energy to get us moving, and is a major force providing the “bass” line to the melody of other aspects this month.

Also on the 11th, Venus is in a harmonious trine to retrograde Mars. Both of these planets are in signs they don’t like, and Mars is moving backwards, so it might be hard to get any real advantage out of this aspect. Emotional closeness based on a sense of mutual security needs most likely will favor “you and me against the world” type of thinking, as both planets are in protective water signs. The next day, the 12th, Venus is sextile to Saturn, a quiet but nice aspect that’s good for building structure and trust in relationships. It’s also a good day to get something appraised.

On the 18th, Venus is again center-stage, as she makes a harmonious trine to Uranus. This is a time to experiment in relationships, and generally favors anything new and different, from the way we decorate for the holidays to the mood at the office party. With both Venus and Uranus in water signs, the effect is subdued and emotional, but pleasant nonetheless. It might get us to open up a little more than we normally would, especially if we’re feeling sentimental.

Also on the 18th, Jupiter moves into Capricorn. Look to the news today to see how Jupiter, the planet of religion, optimism and higher education will fair in the home sign of dour Saturn. Jupiter in Capricorn favors more progressive aspects of authority and government. He’s been in Capricorn for U.S. presidential elections in 1960, 1972, 1984, and 1996, so it isn’t easy to read his track record. More progressive candidates won in 1960 and 1996 (Kennedy and Clinton), but their terms were very difficult, and Kennedy’s ended with his assassination. Nixon won in 1972, but didn’t serve out his term. Reagan’s win in 1984 is problematic for many of us, but his sunny disposition (his chart was ruled by Jupiter) clearly faired better than the others. We’ll see how things play out in 1984, but these few examples show that Jupiter in Capricorn presents a mixed bag (it’s the sign of Jupiter’s “fall”).

Saturn stations to go direct on the 19th, coloring the days before and after with a feeling of gray seriousness. Also today, Mercury meets up with Pluto, making for a day when we speak the truth and accept the consequences. With Jupiter moving into Capricorn the day before and Mercury and the sun joining him on the 20th and 22nd, the mood shifts noticeably towards responsibility and structure.

On the 20th, the sun conjuncts Pluto, an annual event which tends to bring Plutonian issues to the surface. Pluto is getting ready to leave Sagittarius, so expect that some of those typical issues around religion, immigration and race make it into the news.

The 22nd is a mixed-bag. On the one hand, Mercury opposes Mars, leading to the potential for some verbal (or automotive) dueling. On the other hand, Venus is in square to Neptune, offering an opportunity to fall into a dreamy delusion or two. This energy combination is likely to hold difficult consequences for any type of relationship that has been under stress lately.

Things stay “hot” on the 23rd and 24th. The sun meets up with Jupiter on the 23rd, an optimistic and buoyant pairing. This is also the day of the full moon, so the general feel is outgoing and active, although the moon is in Cancer and the sun and Jupiter are in Capricorn, so the emphasis is more on home and family, and maybe some sentiment towards the people with whom we work. The next day, the 24th, the sun opposes Mars, a fiery combination that can trigger the release of anger, but should also provide an extra burst of energy if it’s needed.

On the 26th, Mars opposes Jupiter. The energy of this day is very much like that of the 22nd and 24th, so if you were paying attention, you should know what to expect. In general, high energy, and loose control of tempers. Jupiter adds in a little optimism, although neither Mars nor Jupiter are happy in these signs, so the positive expression of energy is likely to be a bit more problematic. It’s a day many people will have off from work, and that’s good, unless you stay around the house and bicker.

Finally, a day of harmony. The 29th has a pair of nice aspects, one between Mercury and Uranus and the other between the sun and Saturn. The overall feel is one of cooperation and a tendency to acknowledge individuals for their contributions. It’s also a good day to introduce new ideas.

The last quarter moon is on the 31st, giving a nudge to New Year’s Eve.

Have a Happy and Healthy 2008!!
