Monthly Forecast for February 2009
February begins with a bump in the road, as Mercury stations to go direct on the 1st, ending three weeks of his appearing to move backwards in the sky. Its officially okay to sign contracts, buy electronics and automobiles, and there should be less computer and communication glitches. Still, it will take a while for Mercury to get up to speed, so if you can wait a few days or even a week for a major Mercurial transaction, so much the better. You can click here if youre unfamiliar with Mercury retrograde.
On the 4th, Mars enters Aquarius, energizing the landscape with of social issues. This is a good time for progressive social causes. Look especially to the 17th, when Mars meets up with Jupiter in the sign of the Water Bearer, to see something of how this is coming into being.
The 5th is probably the single busiest day of the month, astrologically. Venus, planet of love and relationship makes a square to Pluto, god of the underworld. Power struggles are a possibility in relationship. On the one hand, we ask what we truly value in our partnerships and want to know how we can relate. On the other hand, we want to know whos in control, holding the reigns of power. While this could make for some difficult moments in personal relationships, we might also find some difficulty in terms of financial issues, such as getting a loan.
On a more global level, the 5th is also the day of an opposition of Saturn and Uranus, a major cosmic aspect. This is the second in a series of five aspects, the first of which occurred on Election Day in United States, back on November 4th of 2008. Saturn represents structure and tradition, while Uranus is all about revolution and change. Obviously these two energies are somewhat opposed to each other, and it looks like Uranus got the upper hand in their first meeting. At best, this opposition is about breaking up that which is crusted over and no longer functioning, and also about making revolutionary ideas real. Keep an eye on the news on the 4th and 5th to see how this is playing out.
Februarys full moon on the 9th is a lunar eclipse, at 20 degrees of Leo. Those with placements in the latter part of the fixed signs, especially Leo and Aquarius, should feel this most directly (Taurus and Scorpio will feel it, too, but less directly). In general, a lunar eclipse brings things to light, and the energized full moon has an additional intensity to it. Were heading into relative calm after the eclipse winds down, adding an air of calm to the end of the month.
Mars makes irritating aspects to both Saturn and Uranus on the 11th and 12th, so perhaps this is the time when well see how the opposition is going to manifest. In your own life, you may feel the tension between what needs to change and what you want to stay the same (and of course, that may be the same thing!). Mars is also crossing the point of the January 26th eclipse, so that potentials which were planted then may begin to manifest.
The sun has his annual meeting with Neptune on the 12th, suggesting this is a day better given to spiritual contemplation than action. Going to a movie is a less spiritual alternative, and it certainly is a good time to pay attention to your dreams. The active principle of Mars/Saturn/Uranus suggests that well have a hard time sitting still, however. Watch out that your need for action and change is what you really want, not a momentary whim. Also be aware that sun/Neptune interactions can push us beyond the limits of what is really needed or appropriate when we do choose to act.
Venus and Neptune make a difficult but subtle aspect on the 15th, just a day after Valentines day. These two planets are naturally friendly to each other, and Neptune often considered the expression of a higher octave of Venus. The stress of these two planets in a challenging aspect is an expression of the differences between our idealized concept of relationship and what we want as individuals.
The 16th through the 18th offer a more harmonious picture, as Venus, Mars and Jupiter take turns making soft aspects to each other. The Mars-Jupiter conjunction on the 17th suggests that we might go a little overboard, but the mood is generally upbeat, with the moon in Sagittarius and all the cosmic harmony among the planets, so we might just be energized.
On the 18th, the sun enters Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac and the last sign of the winter months.
On the 18th and 20th, Mercury makes challenging aspects to Saturn and Uranus, suggesting that it isnt the best time to talk with those in authority. Communication might also run into glitches. On the other hand, technical and other Mercurial problems that started back in early January might finally be cleared up now.
The sun and Pluto are on good terms on the 21st, making it an energized day, and one in which we may get support for personal projects.
On the day of the new moon, February 24th, Mercury meets up with Jupiter. The quiet of the new moon in Pisces is perfect for meditation and contemplation, although these two planets may want to open up the lines of communication. Think of it as a good time to connect to your ideals and aspirations, and maybe to share them with others.
Express yourself on the 25th, as Mercury and Venus sextile each other. Its an opportunity to say what you really want without sounding selfish!
The 27th and 28th have a very different tone, as Mars and Mercury irritate Pluto. Words may be very harsh, and actions may be heated. The basic issue will probably come down to a question of who is in the right, and who has the power. Look to the news of the day to see whats happening in the bigger picture.
