Do you believe in astrology?
Astrologers have to cringe a little when this question comes up. On the one hand, wed like to hear everyone rush up with an enthusiastic Yes!, but we know that the truth is more complex.
For one thing, there isnt one astrology. Astrology, like any discipline, has many schools and variations within each school. Astrologers use different zodiacs, house systems, and sometimes even different planets in their readings. And if the nuts and bolts are different among the various schools, the interpretations of the astrological data are different for each astrologer within each school.
Astrology is also a living and growing field. Ideas about how to interpret a chart are always evolving, so astrology isnt something you believe in like an unchanging creed or dogma. We believe there is truth in astrology, but if we thought that astrology was Truth, it couldnt evolve and change.
For example, a hundred years ago, astrologers focused almost exclusively on events that were likely to occur. While events are still part of the astrological interpretation, most astrologers recognize that the natal chart and the transits to it are often expressed in internal states rather than external events.
Blue Moon Astrology
I have a modern approach to astrology. This means I blend the event-oriented and more internal-oriented approaches to create an interpretation that speaks to the whole person. I also let the client guide me in their concerns. Sometimes, a reading is about trying to understand why a client feels a certain way, sometimes the reading is about very concrete questions. I usually keep the technical astrologese to a minimum during the consultation, speaking in terms that the client can understand without becoming an astrologer themselves.
My readings focus on the choices the client has. One of the things that makes astrology seem kind of spooky to many people is the idea that the reading is the speaking of an unalterable fate, some inevitable doom. Would you even want to know? I think a healthier approach, and one which better fits reality, is to find the resources the person has in their birth chart to help them make the most out of the current situation.
