Monthly Forecast for April 2009

“April showers bring spring May flowers”. Yes, but “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb”. Why is everyone always trying to make us feel better about the months of spring?

Well, this April, there will be some comfort required. The outer planets, signals of major social changes, are more or less quiet, but the planets which rule the collective mood get themselves into some hot water this month.

Venus is retrograde until the 17th, signaling 40 days (and nights!) of relationships in reverse gear. Click Here for the scoop on Venus retrograde... Keep in mind that Venus also rules finances and possessions, although with our current economy it’s hard to say exactly how things will slow down even further... It will also take at least a week for the goddess to get up to speed again, so don't expect the phone to start ringing right away.

Speaking of relationship and monetary concerns, Venus and Jupiter make a subtle but irritating aspect to each other on the 1st. These two planets generally get along very well, but today they are speaking in different languages. The basic message is “what’s good for me may not be good for us.”

That’s nothing. On the 3rd, Venus square Pluto, an overt aspect between planets that don’t have much in common. Venus is retrograde, and Pluto is about to station on the 4th, so tensions will be running high in the area of relationship. It is also a uniquely bad day to ask for a loan, or to file your tax return, for that matter. Pluto stations have an intensity about them that can be felt days in advance, and for about two days afterwards (longer for sensitive folks). Power struggles might be in evidence, and something may be going on behind the scenes. On the other hand, these aspects can get us moving if we’ve been sitting on something for too long.

Mars opposes Saturn, also on the 4th. This aspect should add to the tension, and increase the likelihood that we’ll see the problem as being with someone else, and not ourselves. The flavor of this aspect is one of push-pull, driving with the parking break on... just the sort of thing that can amp up the frustration of the Pluto station. If we have a real direction for our energy, though, it can be a very constructive aspect.

We get more or less of a break until the full moon on the 9th. Relationship issues again come to the surface with the full moon in Libra. However, with Venus retrograde we’re still more likely to be reconsidering an existing relationship than starting something new.

The 10th and 11th offer some more constructive aspects that we’ve seen in a while. Communication should flow a little more easily. This is a good opportunity to say what you mean, but be sure you mean what you say.

The 13th through the 15th offer some more tense aspects, this time among Mercury, Mars and Uranus. If the first week of the month had a simmering tension, you can expect that they will erupt now. This is classic impulsiveness, and should be most obvious in our verbal exchanges and on the roadways.

Venus stops to go direct on the 17th, as I said already. Mercury also makes a nice aspect to Saturn that day. This is good for asking for things, like a raise (ha!), but with Venus stationing it’s probably better just to be friendly at work and have a nice day.

Having a nice day may be a wee bit more difficult on the 19th, when Mercury and Pluto form a tense aspect. Words may be too sharp, sarcastic, or show bitterness.

On the 21st, Venus and Mars meet up, an aspect which suggests love and sex in a harmonious relationship to each other. Of course, in Pisces it would be reasonable to interpret this as being about acting compassionately out of a sense of spiritual unity, but if you wanna use the energy for more personal pursuits, I won’t tell.

The month begins to wind down in the last week, with the new moon on the 24th. The days beforehand have a mix of tension and ease... nothing too dramatic but do watch your words on the 22nd - the tendency might be to say too much. Communicating a new idea right around the 24th is a nice idea, but save anything that you want to take off for the next week.

April 25th has Mercury squaring Neptune, a good day to pay attention to your dreams, especially since it’s so close to the new moon. It probably isn’t the best of times to sign a contract, buy something, or send an important communication.

High energy also reigns on the 26th, when Mars squares Pluto. The energy here is very strong, and unless directed carefully can have problematic results. Exercise (but don’t overdo it) or do something to blow off steam. This is a passionate aspect, though, and can get us moving.

The month ends with the sun and Uranus in a mildly abrasive aspect on the 30th. How we define ourselves matters now, and this aspect challenges us to avoid the same old routine.
