Monthly Forecast for December 2008
December begins with a meeting of the two helpful planets Venus and Jupiter in the early hours of December 1st. This aspect suggests smooth sociability through the last weekend of November and into the early part of December. Neither of these two planets exactly loves the sign theyre in, Capricorn, but it should cast a nice glow over any early office parties.
On the 5th, Mercury and Uranus square off, as the sun and Mars meet up on the day of the busy first quarter moon. Watch for a Friday with quick words and perhaps quicker tempers. It is a great time for innovative ideas and putting new ideas into action, but those of us with less of a plan in mind might find ourselves spinning in circles.
Saturday the 6th has an interesting energy which should color late Friday as well. Mercury is in square to Saturn and then sextiles Neptune. The first aspect tends to ground out communication and make for very precise terminology, while the latter is more open and creative. Taking the 5th and 6th together, we should have just enough restraint to keep from going completely off on a bizarre idea, but we can expect that the new and different will take precedence over the tried and true.
On the 7th, Venus moves into Aquarius, lightening the social and romantic atmosphere a little after her stay in Capricorn.
The 10th through the 12th have a very intense energy, as the sun and Mars take turns squaring Uranus. These three planets each have a different flavor of me, and were likely to discover ourselves in a less cooperative mood than we might like. Exercise and any projects involving the use of energy are favored, but watch out that you dont overdo it. To add in a little extra intensity, the 12th is also the day of the full moon and conjunction of Mercury and Pluto. This is definitely the hot spot of the month, action-oriented but very short on careful consideration. The sun will square Saturn on the 12th, but this is more likely to be felt as frustration than restraint.
Mars tangles with Saturn, forming a square on the 15th. This is the classic stomping on the accelerator with the emergency brake on, a recipe for simmering anger and frustration. At best, we can channel energy for a specific purpose, so it is a good day to buckle down to a project. As with the 10th through the 12th, solitary work might go better than cooperative efforts.
The sun enters Capricorn on the December 21st and 7:03 a.m. Eastern time, marking the winter solstice. The sun is at its lowest point in the sky in the Northern Hemisphere, and the light is at its lowest point in the year. Today is the darkest day of the year, the time when we begin our various festivals of light, as the sun begins his long climb towards summer.
Oh, and by the way, you can get an egg to stand on its end anytime of year, if you have enough patience.
On the 22nd, the sun meets up with Pluto, and for the first time since the 18th Century, they are in Capricorn together. This is another one of many days in which well see some signals as to whats in store for us as Pluto trudges through Cap between now and 2024. On the short end, its not a great day for tangling with those in power.
The 24th through the 26th have some of the easiest astrology of the month, with Mercury making harmonious aspects to both Uranus and Saturn. The odds that youll be focused on work at this time are low, but keep in mind that this is a good time to repair damage done in the early part of the month, particularly between the 5th and 7th.
The 27th has a nice, dreamy feel to it, as Venus meets up with Neptune on the day of the new moon. It is perhaps a better day to dream than to act, but our dreams have a reality all their own, and today is a good day to plant seeds for the future.
The mood shifts markedly at the end of the month. On the 28th, Mars meets up with Pluto. On a collective level, this is about Plutos stay in Capricorn and what it might mean for us all. Individually, it is a day when the power and energy will be ramped up, although with Mars in his exaltation in Capricorn, we might find a productive outlet.
New Years Eve has mixed messages. Mercury and Jupiter meet up in late Capricorn, suggesting a kind of dignified student-teacher interaction, and communication that goes well. Saturn, however, is stationing to go retrograde, casting a serious and sober (if not somber) shadow on the last day of the year.
