Monthly Forecast for February 2008

The first thing to keep in mind is that Mercury is retrograde until the 18th. Click here for more on this, if you’re not familiar with the planet of communication operating in reverse.

February also features two eclipses, a solar eclipse on the 6th and a lunar eclipse on the 20th. Solar eclipses are powerful, although their energy often hums along under the surface, like the tension before a thunder storm. Events in the world are not uncommon, but for most of us the day is mostly like a powerful new moon - quiet and somewhat inward oriented. This eclipse will have the strongest effect with those who have planets around the middle degrees of the fixed signs, Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio.

The lunar eclipse on the 20th is a little less intense, but more overt, as it’s a full moon. This is a time when things “come to light.” This eclipse is in the early degrees of the Virgo/Pisces axis. By the way, the lunar eclipse is visible in the eastern part of North America, from about 8:45 on, peaking right around 10:30 eastern time.

In general, February looks to work a little more quietly than January, although much is going on. The thing is, with Mercury retrograde and the month being swamped in Neptune/Pisces energy, it can be hard to know what’s going on. Our feelings will probably be more useful than our thoughts this month.

The Venus/Jupiter conjunction on the 1st is a sweet aspect which lends a nice grace to the day. It isn’t the most powerful aspect that ever happens in the cosmos, but it will make things a little easier, which is helpful right after the Mars station two days earlier, which might have stirred up a more bitter taste.

On the 2nd, Mercury, retrograde, meets up with Neptune, creating a sort of Super Mercury Retrograde Day. It’s a Saturday, so most of us will not have work issues to contend with, but keep in mind this is a better day for a trip to the movies than anything else.

The eclipse on the 6th isn’t the only aspect. The sun and Mercury meet up earlier in the day, and Venus is in a nice sextile to Uranus. The latter aspect furthers creativity, but take it all around, it’s more of a day to be inspired than to act.

The sun conjuncts Neptune on the 10th, another day which is better for meditation and the imagination than for practical purposes.

On Valentine’s Day, the 14th, the sun is in a harmonious trine to Mars. Mars rules many things, including the “drive” aspect of sexuality (Venus is in charge of the pleasure principle). Have fun.

The 24th has the sun in opposition to Saturn. If the 10th is a day where our imagination (and illusions, and delusions) can get the better of us, the 24th is a day when we really focus on the bottom line.

Mercury conjuncts Venus on the 26th. No biggie, but it should help in communicating feelings.

The last quarter moon is on the 28th, in the sign of Sagittarius. Last quarter moons are times of adding up and counting our gains, beginning the earliest planning for the next cycle.

This February, we have an extra day, the 29th. There are no major aspects, but the moon does make some interesting connections, including a square to Uranus, a good symbol for this odd day.
