Monthly Forecast for March 2009
The activity in the skies in March is both tense and intense, with little in the way of easy, flowing aspects to smooth things over. On top of that, graceful Venus is retrograde for most of the month, making it harder to add that softness that can make even difficult situations easier.
We start off on the 1st with Mercury meeting up with Mars. This aspect can make for some hot talk, either lusty or angry (or hey, both!). In Aquarius, the emphasis is likely to be on some external goal or ideal, so watch for powerful words in service to some cause.
The energy of the first quarter moon on the 4th adds to the excitement of the first week of March.
On the 5th, Mercury conjuncts Neptune. Think of this as a one-day Mercury retrograde. This is a good time to get in touch with your dreams and inspiration, but not a good time to make firm agreements. On a mundane level, talk is cheap, and anything from simple exaggeration to outright swindling is a possibility.
Venus stops to go retrograde on the 6th, signaling 40 days (and nights!) of relationships in reverse gear. Click Here for the scoop on Venus retrograde... Keep in mind that Venus also rules finances and possessions, although with our current economy its hard to say exactly how things will slow down even further...
On the 8th, Mars meets up with Neptune. Actions can go into overdrive when these two get together. Theres the possibility of putting creative ideas into action (ideas you had back on the 5th, for example), but its also possible that well drive a little too fast, try a little to hard, or get angry about something that turns out to be nothing.
The same day, the sun opposes Saturn, making for potential conflicts with authority. For most of us, this day should be fine, if a little tense, but someone set to go off will probably find that the match has been lit...
By the way, Daylight Savings Time begins on the 8th at 2:00 a.m. in the United States.
The full moon on the 10th sets off the Saturn-Uranus opposition (exact back in early February). Once again, and probably very obviously, well see how the traditional and the revolutionary are getting on in their ongoing dance to rule the day.
On the 11th, Venus makes a nice sextile to Jupiter. This is a very sociable and harmonious aspect, but with the goddess retrograde it might be a better time for getting in touch with old friends than for moving forward.
The 12th has the sun meeting up with Uranus. As with so many days this month, the energy will be charged, and will favor the new and different. The urge to break out of whatever boxes weve put ourselves into will be strong.
There is a subtle tension between Venus and Mars on the 14th, an aspect which certainly does not favor relationship. If things are going well, however, there will be extra energy at your disposal, so use it well.
The last quarter moon on the 18th puts extra energy into the Mercury-Saturn opposition on the same day. This is a restless energy, and one which can be used to ask for a favor or special treatment from those in authority. If you appear to be deserving, things might even go your way.
The sun moves into Aries on March 20th at 7:43 a.m., signaling the beginning of Spring.
The March mixed bag of aspects has another big day on the 22nd, when Mercury meets up with Uranus and the sun makes a semisquare to Jupiter. Theres a lot of energy in the air, and little inclination to sit still. What we say yes and no to will reflect where we want change in our lives.
This day also has a subtle semisquare between Venus and Neptune, urging us to consider what we really value, and perhaps making us reflect on what we have lost.
The 23rd features a square between the sun and Pluto. The issue here is power: who has it, and what are they going to do with it? Yet this power struggle takes place as we wind down to the new moon, suggesting that some of the strongest currents may be under the surface.
As always, the new moon is a good time to rest, meditate, and reflect. The actual day of the new moon is the 26th, but you can take a day or two on either side.
Probably only one day, since Mercury squares Pluto on the 27th, and Jupiter semi-squares Pluto the same day. This is another day when the question is that of power. Well see it in our personal lives, but also look to the news and see if there is any obvious struggle between finance and government.
For those of you inclined to follow up on the news, the last time Jupiter and Pluto were in aspect was in December of 2007... That day, there were two bombings in Algiers which killed 47 people, a woman working for KBR in Iraq reported being gang-raped by Halliburton employees (who were not subject to U.S. law), and anti-torture protesters were jailed without bail in Arizona... however, on that same day, New Jersey moved to abolish the death penalty, the Supreme Court moved to allow discretion in sentencing for crack cocaine, and ex-CIA officials admitted that waterboarding is torture. The tensions between the progressive and justice-oriented Jupiter and the power of Pluto were obvious then. Lets see what happens now...
The month ends with the sun and Mercury in a semisquare to Neptune on the 30th. It could be hard to know what we want, how to ask for it, and what is real... this is a better day to listen to our dreams (or some nice music) than to put things into action. Think of it as a one-day (or two) Mercury retrograde...
