Monthly Forecast for May 2008

Take advantage of the harmonious energy flowing on May 1st, as Venus makes trines to both Pluto and Saturn. Saturn is stationing, so he’s liable to be a little cranky, but a trine is still a helpful aspect. Venus is newly arrived in her home sign of Taurus, and it should be a good day for romantic and business relationships. It’s also a fine day for a business meeting or to get something appraised. Best of all, this trine is in earth signs, highlighting actual material benefits. Artists should find the day particularly helpful.

All that warm and fuzzy energy is happening in the shadow of the Saturn station on the 2nd. Saturn stations have a heavy atmosphere, and delays and slowdowns of all stripes are common. This energy will build all day, and can even be felt the days before and after. Expect at least some minimal frustrations, but keep heart, as they are likely to be temporary. Although things may seem ponderously slow now, it’s actually possible to start things moving in the right direction now. Break out the echinacea, as colds and other minor ailments are common around Saturn stations.

On the 3rd, Mercury square Saturn, adding communication issues to the generally heavy atmosphere of the station. Not a good day to buy a car or make a business agreement, and be careful what you say in emails and other electronic messages.

The new moon is on the 5th, always a good time to focus on what you’d like to manifest in your life. It’s a great time for meditation and quiet reflection. In the earthy sign of Taurus, and very close to Venus, love and relationships might be very much in the forefront now.

Jupiter’s station on the 9th is very different from Saturn’s a week earlier. Jupiter stations tend to create an air of optimism and even fun, a can-do faith in the future which, while perhaps somewhat inflated, is necessary to get us moving. Saturn makes us see everything in shades of gray, while Jupiter puts on the rose-colored glasses. The reality, of course, is to be found somewhere in between.

To add to the fun, Mars enters Leo on the 9th. While perhaps fostering more self-centered energy, Mars in Leo is also able to play. While he’s in the sign of the lion we might be a little more dramatic and creative.

There’s still more playful, sexy energy in the air in May, as the first quarter moon on the 11th is also in the sign of Leo. The entire time between the 9th and the 12th is about the most fun-filled and playful time of the entire month, so take advantage of this weekend.

On the 12th, the sun makes harmonious aspects to both Uranus and Jupiter (a sextile and a trine, if you’re keeping score). This is yet another day to watch out for electric ally-charged creative ideas, and to entertain the new and innovative. We’re back at work (it’s Monday) so we should be able to carry over the energy of the weekend.

There’s a real shift on the 14th, though, as the sun squares Neptune. Suddenly things don’t seem so clear, and we can’t be sure what’s real and what’s an illusion. Don’t get too wrapped up in anything - whether it’s giving you inspiration or a headache. Dream big, but don’t break out your credit card.

The energy shifts back on the 18th, as Venus makes the same easy aspects to Uranus and Jupiter. This time, it will benefit the new and different, things that break the mold, in relationships and partnerships of all kinds. C’mon, you know you want to.

Oh, but wait. The full moon is on the 19th. Now, ordinarily this would only give an extra charge to the positive energy of the day before, and some of us will no doubt feel exactly that. But, for the second time this year, the moon is full in the sign of Scorpio. I won’t rehash the story on this difficult lunation... just remember back to April 20th and expect a repeat. While at best this moon can help us express our feelings, at worst it can tilt us towards the paranoid - which you obviously might not want to express. See how it goes.

Now... hmmm... what area of life will be affected? Well, Venus squares Neptune on the 20th, and that energy will build for a day or so beforehand. Venus in square to Neptune can generate all sorts of illusions about relationships. Once again, we’re faced with a question mark. For some of us, it’s an opportunity to float away on a dream, while some of us will experience some of the dark emotions of jealousy and insecurity.

On the 21st, Jupiter finally makes the nice sextile to Uranus that’s been implied all month by the other aspects. This should have an effect on the presidential race in the United States, look especially to the Democratic race. Technology should also be a big deal around this time, and, if you’re really paying attention, watch for news about the environment. Al Gore won the Nobel prize the last time these two planets were in aspect to each other.

On the 24th, Venus enters Gemini, a sign in which she is more talkative and playful, although a little less sensual. Venus in Gemini is a flirt, or a gossip, so make the most of the energy...

The 26th is, really, a day to stay in bed. Under the covers. Alone.

Now, I’m not saying things will go all that poorly, and if you can spend this Monday walking in a garden, or meditating, or at the movies (the film will break, but what the hey...), you should be fine. Try to get something done, however, and you’ll be up against a triple whammy. Mercury is stationing to retrograde, which will bring up the usual snafus (click here if you don’t know about this).

But wait - there’s more! Neptune also stations to retrograde on the same day. Neptune stations tend to cloud our judgment, either filling us with false hopes or unnecessarily deflating us and creating despair. There’s really no reason to react, though, as you’ll be working on false information.

And guess what? The 26th also has Venus in square to Saturn, lending extra tension to both business dealings and relationships, as we seek to get to the bottom of things on a day which is otherwise built on quicksand.
