Monthly Forecast for November 2008

Once again, we begin with a buildup to the full moon in the middle of the month, but unlike September and October, the end of the month has some very powerful aspects as well.

We get started early on the 2nd with a station of Neptune, who’s about to move direct. The planet of dreams, illusions and delusions will be casting a spell over all of us, although how it plays out can vary considerably. On the one hand, we could fall for a line, get swept away, or get conned. On the other hand, we might feel paranoid, anxious or confused. The weekend (and probably Monday) isn’t a good time for making important decisions, but is a great time to get in touch with your dreams, watch a movie, listen to music, or meditate.

Two very different relationship and financial aspects highlight the 3rd, as Venus squares off with Saturn and Uranus in the early morning hours. In fact, these aspects build all weekend long. Venus and Saturn argue about reality and responsibility, while Venus and Uranus agree to disagree. Coming right on the heels of the Neptune station and just a day before the Saturn-Uranus opposition, this aspect will personalize the otherwise titanic cosmic forces. Watch for strain in relationships, and also with money matters. The key is to figure out how to honor both the weight of responsibility and the desire for freedom. Those who are torn between the “new” and the “old” will get a feel for which way the wind is blowing. Let change happen, if it needs to.

Election Day in the U.S. will be closely watched around the world, and the 4th has an aspect which could not better describe the election. Saturn opposes Uranus early in the day, and aspect which will form several times between now and 2010, and which carries an immense energy. Saturn represents structure, stability and the status quo, while Uranus is an awakening energy, the power of upheaval and revolution, the new, and change for its own sake. Saturn is the conservative, Uranus is the revolutionary, and at the opposition, they stand face to face. That which has been solidified to the point of crusting over needs to be renewed, while that which is overexcited needs to be constrained. You can figure out the implications for the election, but this aspect goes much, much deeper, and the outcome of the election is only the first bump in the road to deep change.

Also on the 4th, Mars squares a powerful Neptune. This aspect tends to get us acting on faulty data, or fighting for a cause (which may or may not be what it seems to be). Watch the roads, as it also tends to get us to race all of our engines, literally and figuratively, beyond the bounds of reason.

Venus and Neptune make a nice sextile on the 5th. It’s a constructive aspect which can help to heal any relationship wounds opened over the weekend. Financially, it might be possible to get an agreement based on faith and good feeling, with probably benefit to all concerned. This is the day of the first quarter moon, always an active time.

The sun is in a tense semisquare to Pluto on the 6th. Watch for tempers to flare, and all our passions to rise to the surface. Mercury and Uranus are also in a tough spot with each other, so the words might fly too fast for your own good. Mercury’s brush with Saturn on the 7th suggests that it might not be the best time to ask for any special consideration from those in authority.

The 10th and 11th have a series of nice aspects between the sun and Jupiter, Uranus and Saturn, suggesting a time when we can try out new ideas, make some useful connections, and put things into action. It’s a good time in this tense month, so take advantage of it.

On the 12th, Venus makes her annual trip to the underworld, when she meets up with Pluto. On a mundane level, this day can get us in touch with our financial realities (yikes!), or help us to see the deeper realities of our relationships (yikes again!). As we go deeper into the meaning of this aspect, we can see what needs to die, what has to be given up and given over for us to be renewed. There is also passion in this aspect, but it is the passion of surrender, of giving up the fight and going through the fire or renewal. The aspect takes place this year in the last half of the last degree of Sagittarius, letting us know that part of what needs to be surrendered is our beliefs, the comforting stories we tell ourselves but which too often ring hollow when the darker realities show themselves.

About ten hours later, Venus leaves Sag for Capricorn. Venus in Sag is usually about fun and exploration, but this last month or so she’s been heading for her meeting with Pluto, creating a subtheme of dread. In Capricorn, relationships take a more serious turn, but it might even seem like an easing after the aspects which have been playing out this month.

The 13th has a strong creative energy. It’s the day of the Taurus full moon, and Jupiter and Uranus are in a good relationship to each other. Look for significant technology and communications information. The full moon is closely squared by Neptune, again suggesting that we might be too quick to act on faulty information. On the other hand, the day clearly offers us the potential to see possibilities we never thought existed.

The 16th is another high-energy day, but one which will see a lot of flowing energy. Take good advantage of the positive feeling of the day, especially if you need to communicate something or get a new idea across.

The 17th is altogether different, as Venus and Mercury elbow each other and then tangle with Neptune. Communication might break down, a young person might be especially irksome, and we might get the wrong message in some way. Consider it a one-day Mercury retrograde, and avoid buying electronics, signing agreements, or otherwise committing yourself to a course of action.

The 19th is the day of the last quarter moon. This is a high-energy day best given to completing projects that are already underway, and assessing progress so far.

Jupiter and Saturn make an easy trine on the 21st, the last of three they make this year. These aspects harmonize benevolence and responsibility, the tendency to give generously and to make a careful accounting of resources. On a collective level, it signifies an agreement between liberal and conservative, or a harmony between the executive and judicial. On a more personal level, it suggests a time when we can put our inspirations into action.

Later that same day, the sun enters Sagittarius.

On the 24th, Mars and Jupiter have a showdown, but one which acts more subtly than we’d expect from these two planets. There’s a tension in the air, but we might not be sure of its source. The signs involved suggest that things don’t get too far out of hand, but watch for too much temper or enthusiasm.

Pluto leaves Sagittarius on November 26th, moving into Capricorn until 2024. The planet named for the god of the underworld has been dancing back and forth between the two signs all year, transitioning us from the buoyant heights of the archer to the concrete realities of the mountain goat. It’s not hard to see how the last year has brought us down to earth in so many ways, and the transitions are just beginning, as Pluto gets into aspect with Saturn and Uranus through 2012. For those of you who miss the high energy fiery days of Pluto in Sag, the next go-round begins in 2242...

Pluto’s transition into Capricorn is big news, but the deep changes which are signified move at a more or less glacial pace. You can watch the news on the 26th to see what’s on the agenda at present, but part of what you’ll get is the shock that comes from the Uranus station to go direct on the 27th. This is also the day of the new moon, traditionally a quiet time, but with the planet of revolution so powerful, it’s doubtful that it will feel so quiet. Uranus stations are edgy, electric times, when we can act impulsively or irritably. The tendency is to favor the new and different, and to want freedom and breathing room. Coming on the day of the new moon, this is a great opportunity to plant the seeds of deep change in our individual lives and in the larger world.

The 27th is also Thanksgiving Day in the U.S., and with Pluto’s move to Capricorn and all the changes we’ve been feeling, giving thanks for what we have is a good idea. The Uranus station will have a certain tension, however ,which might make family gatherings even more... you know.

Venus makes a sextile to Uranus on the 28th, a more constructive meeting than their square earlier this month. It’s an opportunity to try something new in a relationship, to perhaps make a novel purchase, or to try a new look. The only thing putting a note of caution into the day is a semisquare between the sun and Jupiter, which can make “drama kings and queens” of us all...

The last aspect of the month comes on the 29th, when Venus makes up with Saturn, forming an easy trine. If the aspect earlier this month demanded to know the bottom line in a relationship or financial matter, this aspect suggests that the true worth of either will show itself. It could be time to move up to a higher level of commitment, but if it’s time to let go, that should go easier, as well.

A lot of reading to do this month! Sorry about that, but November has many powerful aspects that will require a bit of thinking and meditation to really grasp. Expect that you’ll experience change on many levels this month. But remember the great truth about deep and profound changes on the personal and collective levels - generally speaking, you’ll still have a cup of coffee and a piece of toast in the morning.
