Monthly Forecast for October 2007

September raced by at a pitiless pace, pushed ahead of itself by all the astrological activity. October is a slower month in the skies, and one in which most of that aspects are supportive and harmonious. The one area that is highlighted is that of relationship, with Venus as the most active planet.

On the 1st, Mercury makes a helpful aspect to Saturn, which should be good in terms of communications with people in authority at work. It’s a good aspect to start off the work week, and is supported by the approaching last quarter moon on the 3rd.

Venus makes another trine to Pluto on the 3rd, also more active because of the moon. This aspect, which has formed several times in recent months due to Venus retrograding in the summer, is good for putting the passion into a relationship, or alternatively letting go of a partnership that is no longer serving you.

On the 8th, Venus moves into Virgo, where relationship becomes more focused on the details than the romance. This placement can be good for assessing the value of things, and will aid in business deals.

Also on the 8th, Mars makes an easy aspect to Saturn. This aspect makes it easier to get what we want, especially from those in authority.

October 9th features the last in a series of three squares between the cosmic giants Jupiter and Uranus. Since it’s the third time they’re meeting, I’ve written about this before, but I think that we’re now in a position to assess the effects of this aspect.

This is the last major aspect in a cycle that began in 1996. Jupiter/Uranus is associated with two major themes, progressive social issues and technology. The Democratic presidential race speaks for itself in terms of progressive social issues. We can expect to see a clear front runner sometime soon after this aspect is exact, but more importantly we’ll see the extent of the Democratic platform on social issues like health care. Things will be at their ideological peak this month, that is.

In terms of technology, this has been the year when Net Neutrality has become central. If you’re not familiar with this issue, Google it and see what comes up. But the most important point is that whatever page you click on will load just as fast as any other. That’s Net Neutrality. Now imagine that some mega-corporations would like to have their pages load faster than, say Blue Moon Astrology. That’s exactly what some companies are planning. It would be like having high-speed service for selected websites, and dial-up for everyone else. There is significant opposition in Congress, which appears determined to maintain Net Neutrality. We’ll probably see the end results sometime soon after the Jupiter/Uranus aspect, and given the inclinations of these two, I would think that it will be in favor of neutrality.

Another area where we’ve seen these two at work is in the issue of royalty fees paid by internet radio stations. In the spring, a court ruled in favor of the music industry in a way which would make the royalties paid by internet stations far in excess of those paid by conventional radio. Again, Congress has been trying to patch the laws involved and the stations are negotiating with the music companies.

Further events that are consistent with this Jupiter/Uranus aspect include Saudi women petitioning for the right to drive (our misogynist ally doesn’t allow women to get behind the wheel) and the protests in Burma. Hopefully the progressive energies of this aspect will prevail.

The new moon is on the 11th, always a time for going inwards. Those who try to go outwards will find themselves up against the station of Mercury to go retrograde. Click here for the straight dope on Mercury retrograde, or just avoid buying electronics, computers, cell phones, or cars, and signing any contracts between now and November 2nd.

The sun trines Neptune on the 12th, a good aspect for meditation, psychic activities, and watching a good movie.

On the 14th, we have one of the heavier days of the month, as Venus meets up with Saturn for the third time since July 1st. A romantic or business situation that’s been going through ups and downs since around the beginning of July is likely to clear up -one way or the other - now. In general, this is a day when we seek out the bottom line, when we decide what things are really worth to us. If we’ve been fooling ourselves or others, the bill comes due.

The 16th and 17th have a nicer energy, also related to relationships, of all types. Communication flows about as good as it can with Mercury retrograde, and it’s easier to express our needs and get what we want with Venus in harmonious aspects to both Mercury and Mars.

The 19th and 20th are high energy days, with the first quarter moon pushing for action. Mercury and Saturn and the sun and Pluto are in good aspect to each other, which should further most types of activities.

On the 23rd, the sun moves into Scorpio, the central sign of the autumn. The leaves are coming off the trees and there’s a natural move inwards now.

The 25th has Venus opposite Uranus. If Venus/Pluto signifies an easy time letting go, Venus and Uranus can signal a sudden break. The best manifestation of this energy is to break out of habitual patterns in partnership and try something new. This is just a day before the October full moon, known as the Hunter’s Moon. With full moon energy high, expect a degree of tumultuousness in relationships, and perhaps also in the markets.

On the 29th, Venus is again in aspect, this time to Jupiter. Here’s where we’re likely to give a little too much value to something, although in a more positive sense we can also generate the faith and enthusiasm to make a leap in the area of relationships.

Neptune stations to go direct on the 31st. Neptune stations fog us out a little, and with Mercury stationing to go direct on the very next day, November 1st, we’re doubly dealing with dubious data. Great for a Halloween party or a more serious investigation of the other realms, but not so great for getting things done at our normal level of existence. So, if you must do something in the real world, check your numbers twice, and try to put off decisions for a few days.
