Monthly Forecast for September 2008

September begins just as the new moon (August 30th) is growing, allowing us to follow the lunar cycle as the month progresses. You can expect things to culminate right around the middle of the month, at the full moon on the 15th. The time before is a little tense, but after the full moon we should have some good opportunities to get things moving a little more easily.

The first aspect of the month is the sun’s conjunction to Saturn on the 3rd. The sun is energy, vitality and strength, while Saturn is about limitations, fears and delays. These two opposing energies, one from the center of the solar system and the other at its farthest visible reaches, are a real contrast. The sun is pure creative energy, while Saturn is about concrete reality. We can see this as a kind of seeding for the reality we want to create over the next year. Although the day itself and the days around it might have a heavy atmosphere, we can use this time to set our intentions towards whatever we really want to develop.

The atmosphere should lighten up a bit on the 4th, as the sun and Jupiter get into an easy trine with each other. You can see this as a needed boost to creativity, as well as a helping hand from those who are knowledgeable and disposed to help. At any rate, it should help get things flowing after the sun’s meet-up with Saturn.

Things start to really heat up at the end of September’s first week. On the 7th, Mars is square to Jupiter, an aspect which is likely to put our ambition in overdrive. In fact, ‘overdrive’ is the perfect word to describe this aspect. Watch for tempers to flare. This is a pretty good time to put plans into action, however, as it is also the day of the first quarter moon. Still, the atmosphere is going to be a little tense, and caution is advised.

The energy of the 7th is all the more intense as Jupiter is slowing down to station to move direct on the 8th. For the second time this year, we have two planets stationing on the same day, as Pluto also stations to move forwards (the other day was May 26th). All the intensity we associate with planetary stations is doubled, making for a day which is liable to feel like a psychic earthquake.

Jupiter has been moving backwards since mid-May, and his move direct will favor a number of social causes and help us to put our beliefs into action. Pluto has been retrograding in the late degrees of Sagittarius since early April, and he’ll be moving ahead towards reentering Capricorn later this year, bringing deep transformation as he goes. The two planets stationing together could create an atmosphere in which we all seek to get things moving and are ready to burst into action. Still, things often move slowly at a station, and the energy can turn to frustration.

For those who want the details, the 8th also features a Mercury-Mars conjunction, suggesting either a war of words or some very questionable driving. But on the 9th, it’s Venus who squares a powerful Jupiter, channeling the energy into the area of relationships. This is certainly a time when we’re like to say what we mean (at least what we mean at the moment) and we’ll try to get what we want. Patience is likely to be in short supply, so good luck to those who are unable to provide what’s asked for!

More of the same energy is to be found on the 11th, when Venus and Mars meet up in the middle degree of Libra. This aspect has a potential for energizing our collective sexuality. In Venus’ home sign of Libra, a harmonious, if not overly horny, expression is to be expected.

On the 12th, the sun opposes quirky and edgy Uranus, egging us on to explore the unknown and uncharted territory in our lives. We can’t expect that everyone will be so enthusiastic however, so wherever we run up against resistance to change is where we’ll be likely to find anger building. The best strategy with this aspect is to simply move past obstructions, step over them rather than trying to push through.

All of the energy which has been building up in various ways over the first part of the month comes to a peak on the full moon on the 15th. This is a time to see what’s come of the activities in the first few weeks of September. It’s kinda like playing Boggle - the aspects at the start of September are the shakeup, and the full moon lets you look and see what letters you have to work with. The last part of the month will help put things together.

The 17th and the 19th are a good start, as Mercury and then Venus are in trine to Neptune. We can express our dreams more easily, and it should be possible to draw the line (more or less correctly) between fantasy and reality. At worst, our delusions ought to at least be pleasant...

Pleasantries are pushed aside on the 20th, as the sun squares Pluto. Here we have a dynamic tension between image and instinct, or maybe ego and id. Basically, it’s another one of those days when we might be too anxious to get what we want, but not really sure what that is. A little foresight is the difference between acting with energy and just being impulsive.

A closing trine between Mars and Neptune on the 21st, the day before the last quarter moon, is an opportunity to energize our dreams, and fuel our passions. The aspect and signs suggest going beyond our usual limits, but stopping short of excess.

The sun moves into Libra on the 22nd at 11:44 EDT, signaling the beginning of autumn.

Also on the 22nd, Venus is in a helpful sextile to Pluto. This is an opportunity to harmonize our image of the perfect partnership with the nitty-gritty biology which is also a part of all relationships. To say that it’s a sexual aspect is an understatement, as passions of all kinds will find their way to expression. They’ll do so much easier, too, because of the Mercury-Mars conjunction (second one this month) on the 23rd.

On the 24th, Mercury stations to go retrograde until October 13th. Click Here if you don’t know what that means. But click soon, the link is liable to go dead any time now...

Watch your dreams on the night of the 27th into the 28th, as retrograde Mercury will trine Neptune. It’s a good time to get messages, probably ones which come from the past.

The new moon is on the 29th, in the sign of Libra. It’s time to wind down and move inwards, reflecting on what we’ve learned and experienced over the past month. Consider how the active days in the first half of the month opened up potentials, while the second half of the month provided opportunities to shape events a little more thoughtfully.
